The “Protect The Kids” committee was created to to recommend ways to protect the community from sex offenders and to end inconsistencies in the way they are sentenced and monitored. Making Westchester County a safe place for its children is a primary concern for us all.

The committee is made up of professionals from myriad disciplines, including the judiciary, social services, the legal community, law enforcement, treatment providers, mental health and education.

These resources represent the culmination of the committee's task to help the public answer questions about identification and prevention of child abuse, as well as to provide relevant information for victims and offenders.

Here you'll find the resources to make good driving decisions. Safety facts have been put together with you in mind and links to other Web sites with important information on why you should drive safely have been suggested. Listen to your parents, teachers, family, friends and read the information featured here. Think about whether or not you are ready to drive. While ultimately it's your decision, having all the information will help you make the right choice.

Parents and teachers, should check out the county traffic safety programs, particularly the "Save Your Face, Click It or Ticket" program designed to educate teens to use seat belts. In fact, police are cracking down on texting while driving. Besides being a dangerous activity to perform while driving, it's againt the law. New studies show that drivers overestimate their ability to multitask behind the wheel.

Try your hand at the "Gauging Your Distraction" game as featured in a series of articles, Driven to Distraction, in the Technology Section of the New York Times Web site. This game measures how your reaction time is affected by external distractions. Regardless of your results, bottom line is that you should not text when driving.

Westchester County government has enlisted the help of area pharmacies in its ongoing effort to educate parents and their teens about the dangers of underage prescription drug abuse.

Underage prescription drug use is on the rise, becoming a bigger problem than underage drinking and drug use. Through this initiative, pharmacists will help get the word out to parents by distributing brochures.

The initiative was proposed by the Westchester County Coalition for Drug and Alcohol Free Youth, a coalition of local groups that are working to combat underage drinking and drug use.

One pamphlet that pharmacists will be providing to their customers outlines ways in which parents can prevent their children from getting involved with this growing wave of prescription drug use. The other specifically addresses cough medicine abuse and is available in English and Spanish. The following are among the participants:
